Welcome! My name is Heeni and I live in Whanganui-A-Tara (Wellington) with my two girls. I started thinking about this jewellery range a few years ago. I love chunky rings and jewellery that is meaningful. I wanted a way to connect where I come from to the taonga (treasures) that I wear and started experimenting with 3D design and maps. From there came the seed of an idea to put the likeness of our whenua (land) onto jewellery. I started with some of the most well known maunga or mountains, in Aotearoa - Hikurangi, Ruapehu, Taranaki and Aoraki.
If you would like to discuss creating a maunga for you or your whanau please contact me.
To be able to look at my hand and see the familiar shape of Ruapehu maunga, and feel the rough topography, it brings back happy memories growing up in Taupo - of swimming in the lake and skiing at Whakapapa. I get a sense of connection to whenua and to me, that is good for my soul.
It's important to me to support local business, and to make sure these taonga are quality and will last a lifetime, so all my jewellery is hand-made here in Aotearoa, New Zealand. Everything is made to order.
